Over the years, the Santa Fe Indian Market has grown into the largest cultural event in Santa Fe and it has become increasingly difficult for visitors to locate specific artists and art forms. This Indian Market Artist Booth Locator App will address this problem and provide additional artist contact information for collectors and visitors (Figure 1). Ultimately, this app will help SWAIA to promote Native artwork and artists more effectively during the Indian Market and throughout the entire year.

This app functions like the familiar Maps app that comes standard with all apple mobile devices. The interface is user-friendly and includes all of the basic gesture features like pinching to zoom, touching for more info, active links to safari for web access, etc.

All Indian Market booths were geo-referenced at the 2010 Indian Market; the functional map is a restricted version of the City of Santa Fe’s GIS photomap. All artist and non-artist booths will be listed and searchable. A user can search by artist name, tribe, media, or booth number. If searching for tribe or media, all artists of that tribe or media will produce a pin drop at all of those locations (Figure 2). Similarly, a search for a single artist by name yields a single pin drop (Figure 3).

Touching any pin reveals the basic information about that artist and a touch to the right arrow reveals detailed information about that artist (Figure 4). This screen also offers various buttons to add them to the user’s contacts, get directions to their booth, share the location via email or MMS, or return to the map screen.

Future additions could include pushed data based on a user’s location (if they have their geo locate data active) like “hey, you are passing Blue Rain Gallery, your favorite artist John Nez shows there.” Other information about artists can be pushed year-round to announce events like gallery shows or other market shows.
